History of RC Drift Cars


Drifting is a kind of driving technique that involves the intentional over-steering that causes loss of traction in rear wheels through turns, while maintaining control and high speed in the corner. Professional drifting competitions are being held worldwide and people are very much hooked in this type of extreme hobby. The history of drifting was started in 1970s in Japan. The popularity of this sport has led to the invention and popularity as well of the now favorite hobby of extreme sports lovers, the RC drift cars.

A nitro drift car uses a fuel or oil in order to run. Running this type gives you the opportunity to as if run a real car. Usually, nitro drift cars tend to run faster than the electric models and they are able to be driven for longer periods of time. But with their increased weight, they are more prone to mechanical wear and high speed collisions than the electric drift cars. They also require higher maintenance as they are more exposed to dirt and mess because of the unburned oil contained in the engine.

For drifting, the electric drift cars are the ones recommended because they are lighter weight, contain durable motors and easy to maneuver. Nitro RC cars have a tendency to overheat the engines when used in a drifting competition.

Radio-controlled drift cars are usually equipped with special low grip wheels so that cars are able to slide easily. Typically, higher end drift cars contain a four-wheel drive machine and made from high quality PVC pipes. 4×4 cars are easier to be controlled and recommended for easy drifting. Some of the popular brands of RC drift cars are those that are supplied by Tamiya and Yokomo.

If you are a drift car beginner, you might experience some difficulty in controlling the vehicle. The recommended type of drift car you may use is the electric models, as they are lighter and can be easily maneuvered than gas-powered. However, it may take some practice for you to become a good drifter. Once you knew the basics, you will already be able to compete with other drifters. Also, if you already started to make some good drifts, you might probably don’t want to stop this challenging and fun game. As many people stated, this sport is captivating and addicting.
